Finca Son Blat Villa in Porto Cristo, Mallorca – Review

We booked a week in August 2022 at the ‘Es Sestador’ villa at Finca Son Blat, near the town of Porto Cristo on the east coast of Mallorca.

We were dubious before we arrived, having spent the first week of our holiday in Mallorca at a James Villa that hadn’t really met our expectations.

That villa was roughly the same cost as we’d paid for our stay at Finca Son Blat, so we were sceptical that this would be much better – despite the extensive photos of Finca Son Blat on Booking.com which looked absolutely stunning.

We kind of had a feeling that the photos we’d seen might’ve been too good to be true. Or, as happened to us on a holiday a few years ago, that the so-called ‘private’ grounds and pool might be shared with other holiday homes.

Well, as we pulled up at the gate it was quickly clear all those concerns were unfounded as Finca Son Blat absolutely blew our expectations away!

There are actually two holiday villas on the large farm of Finca Son Blat. We stayed in the one called ‘Es Sestador’. The other is called ‘Ses Cases’ – but you can’t see any part of one villa from the other; they are totally separate and both completely private, each in their own totally private grounds with their own private pools.

As you approach the property along the sweeping, olive-tree lined driveway, we instantly got the ‘wow factor’ we always hope for when arriving at a holiday villa.

In fact, this place had the biggest wow factor of any villa we’ve ever stayed in before.

You gain access to the house through a large wooden gate which, when opened, reveals views of the enormous, immaculate grounds – with a huge, lush green lawn leading down to a large pool and sun patio area with nothing but views of fields and countryside beyond.

The location of the villa is absolutely perfect – in peaceful, quiet countryside with nothing but blue sky and fields as far as the eye can see, but just a short drive from all the amenities you need for a comfortable self-catering family holiday. Supermarkets, restaurants and beaches are all just a short drive away.

We were in love with this villa the moment we saw the outside – and, having explored the inside we only came to love it more.

It was pristine clean with large, spacious open-plan living areas and comfortable bedrooms, very well-equipped kitchen and good quality modern bathrooms / en-suite.

There’s even an office / study / library stocked with books and a huge, separate ‘garden room’ building, which was one of our favourite features.

The garden room has a row of large glass doors which open out into the garden and is equipped with a dining table and comfortable sofas.

The ‘garden room’ and upper patio area

It provides a perfect place to sit inside, but still with the feeling of being outside – ideal for the one rainy day we had here, where we could sit relaxing, reading and watching the rain fall on the patio and gardens outside, before heading straight back down to the pool once the storm passed a few hours later.

Literally everything we look for in a holiday villa was here at Finca Son Blat: Good quality air conditioning in all the bedrooms, decent showers, everything you need in the kitchen – it’s all here to give a real ‘home away from home’ experience.

The owner, Juana, came and met us shortly after we’d settled in on the first day.

She was helpful, friendly and interesting, speaking good English and being patient with my attempts to practice my Spanish with her, as well as giving us advice on places to visit nearby.

To our even greater surprise, there’s a cleaner who visits twice a week too, emptying the rubbish, changing the towels and completely cleaning the whole place – which is not something we were expecting at all.

From the photos and details on the Finca Son Blat website and the other holiday booking sites, this villa looks beautiful. But we sometimes find photos make a villa look better than the reality, which is what we were expecting here.

In fact the opposite was true – in real life, this property is even better than it looks. It’s a huge, comfortable, beautiful property with stunning grounds in a perfect location – a great base to explore this beautiful part of the island and without doubt the best holiday villa we’ve stayed at in our lives.

We 100% recommend it and it gets a 10 out of 10 score from us!
