Hotel Alexane Review, Samoens

We spent three nights at the Hotel Alexane (Suites de Alexane) in Samoens in the Alps. If you’re considering booking to stay here then we can highly recommend this amazing, luxurious hotel and suites in Samoens. Here’s our full Hotel Alexane review…

We booked our three-night stay at Hotel Alexane through Booking.com purely because we were looking for somewhere to stay that was close to an international mountain bike race we were spectating at in nearby Les Gets.

We hadn’t paid much attention to the nature and facilities of the hotel, so had no idea what a treat we were in for.

The bulk of Samoens’ tourist visitors come in winter for the skiing around the ‘Port du Soleil’ region so Hotel Alexane is very much a winter skiing destination hotel – but is open all year round and appears to have significantly discounted rates in the quieter summer months.

It was because it was so relatively inexpensive during our July visit that we didn’t immediately realise what a luxurious and high quality hotel it was.

Hotel Alexane was easy to find – a simple drive just over an hour from Geneva airport and situated right at the centre of Samoens with plenty of parking space right next to the hotel.

As we walked in to the entrance lobby we were immediately blown away by the place.

A large, welcoming reception area with some amazing, unique decoration, luxurious furniture, a huge grand piano and comfortable seating and bar area gives the place an immediate wow factor as soon as you arrive.

This is five-star, luxury hotel quality – at a price (during summer) no different to a cheap UK Travelodge.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, speaking perfect English and showing us personally up to our room, which was the ‘Comfort Suite’ – a kind of ‘apartment’ within the hotel ideal for families with a shared living space but separate bedrooms.

The suite itself was superb – we couldn’t quite believe our eyes at how beautifully furnished it was, with large flat screen TVs embedded in the walls of each bedroom and the lounge, large, luxury leather sofa and arm chairs, an incredible bathroom with bath and huge separate rainfall shower…

Hotel Alexane Comfort Suite view
Luxury and high quality that totally took us by surprise!

Big sliding doors opened out on to a balcony with loungers, a table and views to the nearby mountains.

The king sized double beds had a wide range of different sized, comfortable pillows and the mattresses were incredibly comfortable.

The whole decor and furnishing of the hotel just made us feel really at home and we could happily have spent a lot longer here.

The biggest attraction of Hotel Alexane is the unbelievable spa facility. Being able to come back here after a hard day in the nearby mountains and relax and unwind in this phenomenal Hotel Alexane spa really added a different dimension to our stay in Samoens.

Hotel Alexane only opened in December 2018 so was only seven months old when we stayed – so everything is ultra modern, new and clean.

The spa changing rooms are huge and luxurious, leading through to a large swimming pool with loungers – and sliding doors to a south-facing outdoor sun terrace with loungers and parasols and beautiful mountain views.

There’s a massive jacuzzi, which could easily fit 10 people – although we had it to ourselves most of the time during our stay.

There’s a large steam room and sauna, with a ‘sensory shower’ outside, which sprays you with all different types of simulated rainfall to cool you off – along with a ‘Nordic Bath’ ice-bath.

Everywhere you turn throughout the whole building there are just special touches of luxury which make the whole experience of visiting a memorable and enjoyable one.

There’s a huge, free underground car park beneath the hotel with lifts directly up to the rooms and suites.

And there’s an adjoining restaurant (‘Fabio Restaurant’) serving breakfast and dinners, along with a cafe too.

We didn’t eat at the restaurant as it looked like the selection for breakfast was a bit limited for the price, so can’t comment on the quality of that – but if it’s anything like the standard of the rest of the hotel, it must be good too!

Samoens Les Gets
Summer views between Samoens and nearby Les Gets

Just a two or three minute walk away from the hotel are the shops, amenities and restaurants at the centre of Samoens – a beautiful town surrounded by mountain scenery, quiet – but with enough going on to pass the time in the evenings or days off from the mountains. And 5-minutes’ drive is a large Carrefour supermarket.

Hotel Alexane is within 25-minutes’ drive of the larger, higher altitude resort of Les Gets; 40-minutes’ drive from Morzine or an hour’s drive from Chamonix.

During peak winter ski season it looks like the prices for Hotel Alexane rise to something more in line with its luxury five-star nature, but during the summer we could barely believe our luck that we managed to stay in such a stunning hotel at such a reasonable cost.

We’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years and everything about Hotel Alexane combined to make it one of the best and most memorable that we’ve ever stayed in. A truly beautiful hotel, which we can’t recommend highly enough!
